Information About The Scholarship And How To Apply

Shortly after Barney’s death, his family had the idea to begin a scholarship in Barney’s memory.  It was not a difficult decision.  Barney loved kids, was a teacher and coach, and strongly believed in the importance of furthering one’s education/skills after high school.  Each year, the family awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from each of the four Morrow County High Schools: Heppner Jr/Sr High, Ione Schools, Irrigon High School and Riverside High School (Boardman). All graduating seniors who are planning on pursuing their education at a university, community college or trade school are eligible to apply.  Preference is given to students pursuing careers in education or agriculture and who have been actively involved in their local community.

Applications will be made available to seniors at their respective schools in the late winter/spring of each school year.  Students are encouraged to contact their guidance counselor or other school personnel involved in scholarship applications.  Applications will be turned in to the school, and the school will submit all completed applications to Kimberly Lindsay.  Kimberly, Kaelyn, Alex, Brian, and Catherine will review the submitted applications.  A scoring sheet will used to identify the winning applicant from each school.  Scholarship recipients will be notified at the graduation or scholarship ceremony held at the time of graduation.

Recipients must sign a consent form allowing their image and bio to be shared on this website and in press releases.
